43rd Convention - National Society of Black Engineers in Kansas City, Missouri

Maddën has always had an interest in engineering. From the love of trains, space, LEGO...he's a STEM kid. Full week in a nutshell_Hair cut 180V Barber Salon and then off to the opening ceremony. Breakfast every morning and then off to the Kids Zone - Innovation Lab. Full of virtual devices, water filtration systems, electrical engineering, robotics and more. Business center full of engineering jobs, colleges and vendors. Every booth Madden encountered he impressed them all. He just has it. I remember when I too wanted to be an Engineer. An architect a matter of fact. I just sat back and allowed him to do his #STEM thing. He passed out his business cards, even sold a book, and a couple of bow ties with no help from us. He is a true entrepreneur and he believes in his product and book club. The children were able to enjoy Hip Hop concerts, a magic show, red carpet premiere to the movie Dream Big and museum. He was presented with a patch from the first and youngest (18 at the time) Air Force instructor pilot. I told Mr. Ruffin (the pilot) Maddën always told Anthony and I he wanted to fly us you the moon since the age of 3. So, in order for Madden to except Mr. Ruffin's first badge, he had to promise to do the same for another youth once he became a professional engineer. He also won a $200 gift card from Southwest Airlines in a drawing that he actually helped pull (eyes were closed). He will be using it to attend #NSBE44 in Pittsburgh, PA next season baby. Competition Day was beautiful to watch. The presentation that the team (Futureneers) worked so hard on went well as we knew it would. They built a system to help increase population for Honey Bees and African lions. The motor had stopped working right before judging and Madden jumped right in and found a solution to the problem. To end the week the kids received metals, had a great luncheon ceremony for them with key note speakers and attended the Torch Awards. Over 11,000 black engineers attended this conference. Shout out to the team aSTEAM Village, the support from family and friends that help us last year, my #TannerGang for the time they invested as well as Madden. Especially my husband for working all those Royal games to help pay for both the STEM summer camp and regular season, Nsbe KansasCity, volunteers, parents and coaches. Maddën worked hard this year. God has big plans for him. He's grown a lot and we are very PROUD. Watch out for his next book called, Royale Boy Blue Becomes A Master Builder_coming Fall 2017. #RoyaleBoyBlue#Madden #STEM #NSBE43 #NSBE44 #TannerGang #RoyaleAcademy#RoyaleBoyBookClub #aSTEAMVillage
